Through the Additional Financing Five (AF V) the project has managed to support different pillars of the COVID-19 national response. Under the laboratory pillar, the project procured and distributed 21, 000 cartridges for gene x-pert instruments to 26 facilities across the country for COVID-19 diagnosis. This was made possible through some USD $2million retroactive financing from the Cordaid Global Health Office. Other activities supported through this arrangement include; video conferencing facilities for the Minister of Health and Child Care and Permanent Secretary’s board rooms to improve timely coordination with other health Directors. The same facility is now being rolled out to all the Provincial Directorate Offices across the country.

Under the surveillance pillar the project purchased a server and installed instant management system for managing COVID-19 (Go Data). Piloting of system was done in Mashonaland East after a successful Training of Trainers on the use of Go Data system. In addition, the project continues to support the servicing and fueling of vehicles and motorcycles in all provinces for contact tracing. Additional servicing of vehicles for MoHCC HQ under the various pillars is being done. The Infection Control and Prevention pillar received various PPEs that were distributed to selected facilities across the country.

The HSDSP AF-(V) is supporting the MoHCC to strengthen its grievance redress mechanism (GRM), a system by which queries or clarifications about the service delivery are responded to, problems with implementation resolved, as well as complaints and grievances addressed efficiently and effectively. To ascertain the gaps that are currently there and to find ways to strengthen the system, a field assessment  was conducted targeting facilities at all levels from primary, district, provincial and central levels in both the northern and southern regions of the country. Findings revealed the presence of a system that was not being optimally utilised as it had gaps and was not standardised. A workshop to develop standard operating procedures as well as reporting tools was done with representatives from all levels of the MoHCC structure. After the approval of the tools developed, a pilot of the system will be done in the first quarter of 2022.!
